How important is it for business to protect their reputation online and how to increase it

When it comes to businesses and their online reviews, everything has been shifting to digital over the past 20 years. Businesses now have websites and a presence and also use certain platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. It is a necessary evil and it just adds more and more onto the business owner or even the general managers’ pate. Online reviews really took off with Yelp from restaurants and it took off and launched from that industry and carried over to many industries. Even with B to B businesses are huge now where it is not just the end-user customer. It is business partners that are looking online for you. The biggest shift that we really saw that accelerated this even fast was during COVID. Businesses no longer had the luxury of people just walking down the street and finding them that way. The only way that customers were finding them and were communicating with them and ultimately decided to try them was online and so these online reviews became huge and even larger than they were before.

Is there a correlation between reviews and the publicity of the business?

It first depends on the kind of industry in the business section. When it comes to Amazon or Google shopping where it is strictly E-commerce, there is that direct correlation because it gets pushed up higher. It is an algorithm and it is all data. Reviews can be viewed as a kind of popularity test that you would have back in high school and as humans, whether we want to or not, if we see a product it has 200 reviews and we see the same product for an even lower price point but it only has 5 reviews, we generally go towards the product with the product that has 200 reviews. When it comes to local businesses, they have Google my business reviews or Facebook or Yelp, there is a similar kind of pull that way as well. The reason is the Google search local SEO type algorithm. A lot of businesses look into digital marketing and SEO and they spend thousands of dollars and it is a long-term game. The online reviews and your ranking is actually the number 2 contributor to your Google my business local SEO results. So if you are a brick-and-mortar, and you're trying to drive traffic. This is essentially a freeway. As long as you set up a system and follow through that and manage it properly to drive those results.

How do celebrities and influencers help with an increase in reviews?

This all starts with the impact of social media and the influence that some of these people have over brands do have an advantage to partnering with celebrities or those influencers with large audiences. One industry where you see this happening is the tequila industry. So many celebrities have either partnered with different tequila companies or have created their own and because of their fan base, the product becomes popular. The product could be very wonderful but a lot of the press and a lot of this positive public phrase from people is really coming because of the influencer. This is a strategy they have used for businesses to build their brand better. Marketing is impactful and is it a fact that so many people are following that trend to expand and build the business speaks to the success of the strategy.
